Miguel Oliveira Post Race Press Conference Interview MotoGP Mandalika Pertamina Grand Prix Indonesia
Ok! Ladies and gentlemen we are ready to start the post-race press conference at the end of a dramatic Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, here at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit! Guys we had to wait 25 years for our first Indonesian Grand Prix.
it was well worth the wait! Congratulations to our race winner. Red Bull KTM Factory racing rider.
Miguel Oliveira! Second place, to the reigning world champion, Monster Energy Yamaha rider.
Fabio Quartararo and a hard fought third place for Pramack Racing Ducati rider.
Joan Zarco! We'll start the press conference with our race winner Miguel Oliveira. Miguel, it was always going to be a tricky race the long delay 75 minutes for you guys to build up the pressure, build up the tension.
But we saw you get a fantastic start from seventh, and that seemed to be the springboard to launch you towards that victory! Yes, I think without this good start the race could have been a bit different for me.
I really couldn't see anything behind the riders, with all the spray and a lot of rain in the visor. It was definitely very hard to see the lines and to be precise.
also to judge the grip level, you know, I think by the end of the race I understood more how much I could push.
But to ride 20 laps in a row on the rain or to do a practice is quite different you can. You can explore a bit more during the practice breaking points or go wide and or cool down the tires but here was truly difficult you needed to manage but fortunately I made a good start.
After that, you know, just following Jack a little bit I could understand a bit more and yeah, then was just building up a gap and control for the the rest of the race.
If the race had seven laps more, I don't know, but Fabio was coming on pretty strong so, yeah!
But happy, happy for coming back to the podium and especially with the win!
You guys have just watched some footage of the race there... big moments for Jorge Martin and Pekko Bagnaia it's so easy to make a mistake, I guess it was a real tough test. Have your focus and concentration being on your own for so long at the front?
Well, to be honest with you I saw that, you know, Pekko and Jorge... they crash maybe because of some aqua planning into turn one to be honest with you, I haven't realized about that amount of water. There maybe just by pure instinct I just was out of it all the time so fortunately for me was, was good.
A great win in the wet conditions, you've had a difficult period in the second half of 2021 but do you feel after how strong Brad was in Qatar that you and KTM are back and we'll see you fighting in all conditions at the front now on a consistent basis? I mean, I think it's very early to say because we only had 2 races and yeah for sure we want to keep this strong.
Strong condition going into other races as well we just don't want to perform three times or four times during the season and then just be average, we want to be up there more often.
we are aware that we need to work really hard. That's the normal of this category everyone is so close together and you see the difference that sometimes it makes being in the Q2 or not.
.so It can turn your whole weekend around.
We are focusing on being fast first of all and then just being able to produce good performances in the race and score points! The perfect way for you to mark your 50th premier class appearance Miguel! I think, we're going to allow you to make a quick exit.. I do believe you've got a flight to catch very very quickly!
Before you do, apologies to Joan and to Fabio because Miguel is trying to make a quick rapid exit.
We'll have one very quick question from the media to Miguel before we carry on with the press conference, thanks for your patience Fabio and Joan. Miguel! Simon Patterson from Motorcycle Sports..
How important was it to be able to judge the grip levels very early on in the race? Obviously you had a lack of experience here in the wet but you seemed to be able to find the grip really quickly and that looked like it helped decide the race! Yeah
I mean, going behind some riders helps.
Going behind Jack and seeing the lap times I could build up the reference
especially for breaking points. And after that I was seeing my lap time, seeing that I was building a gap so I try to maintain that level of risk and not make any mistakes! Ok!
So we will let Miguel beat the haitian retreat to the airport! Many congratulations Miguel! Have a safe trip back to Europe.
Thank You! From now on I will have a flight for sunday! It will take his race winning trophy with him, as well 25 world championship points! Congratulations Miguel Oliveira! As we said, thanks also to the patience of Fabio and Joan Zarco.
Ladies and gentlemen, your race winner here in Mandalika. MIGUEL OLIVEIRA! Thank YOU!
!! THANKS FOR THIS AMAZING VICTORY IN THE RAIN!.
